PNG to ICO
One .ico file with every size inside, from 16 to 256 pixels.
How it works
- 01Drop in a PNG. A square image with a transparent background works best.
- 02Choose "website favicon" (16, 32 and 48 px) or "Windows icon" (16 to 256 px), and adjust the framing, shape or padding if you like.
- 03Download the .ico. It keeps your file's name, so logo.png becomes logo.ico.
Questions
›Website favicon or Windows icon?
Browsers only use the small sizes, so "website favicon" keeps the file light with 16, 32 and 48 px. Windows shows icons much larger on the desktop, in Explorer's large views and on high-resolution screens, so "Windows icon" adds 24, 64, 128 and 256 px for shortcuts, folders and programs.
›Is transparency kept?
Yes. Each size is stored as a PNG inside the ICO, see-through areas included. Turn on a background color only if you want a solid square.
›Will a small PNG look blurry?
Every size is drawn fresh from your PNG with a high-quality resize, so shrinking stays sharp. Enlarging can't add detail, though: for a crisp 256 px Windows icon, start from a PNG at least 256 pixels wide.
›Where do these ICO files work?
ICO files that store PNG images work in every current browser and in Windows since Vista. For a whole website, the favicon generator also makes the Apple touch and Android icons.
›Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed on your own device by your browser. They never touch our servers, so there are no upload waits, no size caps from us, and nothing to delete afterwards.
