Why it's free
Most "free" online tools are free until they aren't: three files a day, a watermark on the export, a 500 MB cap, then a sign-up wall and a subscription. That's because every file you drop on those sites is uploaded to their servers and processed there, and servers cost money for every file.
Your device does the work
Rounder's tools run inside your browser. Modern browsers can compress video, edit PDFs and even run AI models locally. When you use a tool here, the page downloads a small program and runs it on your own computer or phone. Your files never travel to us.
- No limits: we don't pay per file, so we don't need to ration them.
- Private by design: we can't see, store or leak files we never receive.
- Fast: no upload or download queue, especially for big files.
- Works offline: once a tool has loaded, most keep working without a connection.
So how do we pay the bills?
Hosting a website whose tools run on your device costs almost nothing. The few costs we have are covered by a small number of polite ads from Google. That means no pop-ups, no fake download buttons and no ads that play sound on their own, and ads are never placed inside a tool or next to a download button. If an ad on Rounder ever looks like a button, that's a bug, and we want to hear about it: send us the page and a screenshot.
Some tools carry no ads at all: the ones that handle passwords, keys and documents you're protecting, like thefile encryptor and Redact PDF.Here's the full list, and why.
What you'll never see here
- Sign-up walls or "create an account to download"
- Watermarks on your exports
- Daily limits or "upgrade to premium"
- Fake download buttons or redirect chains
Open source, so it can't quietly change
All of Rounder's code is public under the AGPL-3.0. Anyone can check that the tools work the way we say, and if Rounder ever went the way of the sites above, anyone could run their own copy.
