MOV to GIF
iPhone clips and Mac screen recordings, made into GIFs.
How it works
- 01Drop in a MOV file, such as an iPhone video or a Mac screen recording.
- 02Drag the timeline handles to the part you want, then choose the width, frame rate and an optional caption while the preview updates.
- 03Click Make GIF and download it, or make a much smaller MP4 loop instead.
Questions
›Will my iPhone video open?
With the default "High Efficiency" camera setting, iPhones record MOV files in HEVC (H.265). Chrome, Edge and Safari decode HEVC on many devices. Where your browser can't, Rounder asks before fetching a one-time decoder of about 31 MB, which converts the clip on your device first.
›How do I make a GIF of a Mac screen recording?
macOS saves screen recordings (Shift-Command-5) as MOV. They are very wide on a Retina screen, so pick a width of 640 to 800 px: text stays readable and the GIF is far smaller. Fewer colors suit flat app screens well.
›Why is the GIF so much bigger than the MOV?
MOV uses modern video compression, which predicts motion from frame to frame. GIF can only skip pixels that stay the same and holds at most 256 colors per frame, so it is often many times larger. Shorten the range, lower the width or frame rate, or make an MP4 loop instead.
›Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed on your own device by your browser. They never touch our servers, so there are no upload waits, no size caps from us, and nothing to delete afterwards.
