Questions
›What happens with animated GIFs?
You get a PNG of the first frame. A PNG here is a still image, so the animation isn't kept.
›Is anything lost?
No. A GIF frame has at most 256 colors and PNG stores them all exactly, so the picture is identical. Transparent areas stay transparent.
›Why convert GIF to PNG?
Many apps, slide decks and design tools handle PNG better than GIF, and some sites only accept PNG or JPG for avatars and icons.
›Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are processed on your own device by your browser. They never touch our servers, so there are no upload waits, no size caps from us, and nothing to delete afterwards.
